Can anyone tell me what the length of the forks are supposed to be on a 1977 KZ 1000 from to to center of axle? and in fact is there anywhere that has information on dimensions of parts on this and other Z's - my Clymer manual has lots of info on bolt tightening torques but not on dimensions.

Thanks, Bluezbike

alot of times sellers on Ebay will list dimensions in the description.

i would have thought it would be very useful to have the dimensions from a known standard original machine available for owners to take bearings from, at least if to settle the mind about dimension queries.

Kawasaki lists some measurements in the part description in the microfiche. Not shock length, but usually bearing and bolt sizes, etc.

I would also like to know the length of front forks as I have a set of lowered forks to sell on eBay and would have to answer a lot of questions of how much they would lower bikes. Roy

Specifically, what lengths do you need? Total length, fork tubes, lower forks?

Hi McDroid, looking to know what the original total length from top of fork to center of axle is supposed to be, I am building up a resto-mod style 77 KZ 1000 and I want to find out what newer style forks would fit well on the bike. My current options are forks from a 91 Suzuki GSX Ninja at 31.5" or from a ZX9R at 29". I am worried that the the ZX9R ones might be a little short but they are the later ones from 2002 with standard (ie. not upside down style) fork outers. They would be my top preference with tubes measuring 46 mm. I will also need to get a rear swingarm too as I am starting off with just a frame, forks, half an engine and wheels at the moment.

Many thanks, Bluezbike

As it turns out, I have two sets of KZ1000A2 (1978) forks for my two KZ1000A1s. The 1978 are dimensionally identical to the 1977 forks, except that they are designed for trailing disks (1978) rather than leading disks (1977). Unsprung (off the bike) the assembled fork is 30 3/4 inches (aka 780mm) in length.

Thank you McDroid, looks like the 29" zx9r's will work, can't wait to star mocking this bike up.

Many thanks, Bluezbike
